ARK-ward?

So why is it Arkward and not Awkward?

I've gotten this question numerous times and each time I respond with "It adds on to the Arkwardness but really I just wanted to be different and fun!"

While that is true, here's the real reason:

I was raised in the African American community where not everyone uses the proper annunciation of words. It is not always due to the lack of education as some may think but has more to do with the culture. For some reason we take pride in slang, ebonics and mispronouncing words. If you spoke proper you were frowned upon.
Growing up I always pronounced the word awkward like "arkward" with full emphasis on the "Ark". I knew the correct spelling of the word (I past all of my spelling test and even got a 98 on my English regents in High School) but since no one corrected me (partially because it was normal I guess) it just stuck with me.

In a weird way I guess you can say I'm remembering my childhood and I'm embracing my culture in an arkward way!

-Stay Arkward
